Like all flag football leagues, the Blitz Flag Football League requires a player to have a flag pulled from a belt in order to be considered "down" on a play. Of course, he might actually be down before the flag is pulled in this league.
The league begins its fifth season Saturday with games at Boles Junior High, League Director Jon Cordio, a former receiver at Pantego Christian said individuals players are still welcome. "They'll come in as free agents," Cordio said. "All teams are always looking for a player or two." But come ready to hit and be hit. While the league allows no tackling, there is blocking and contact. Receivers will be bumped, runners might be knocked to the ground. "You want to know you're out there playing football," said Cordio, who founded the league wih his brother, Matt. "But you're not out there to hurt people. I've seen people get laid out in this league on many occassions, and they jump right back up." Games are eight on eight, with formations including three down lineman, a quarterback, a running back, and three wide receivers.
